Carl, happy lunch time. That sounds great. Enjoy the family and ice cream.

Subject: [blind-democracy] Time for a break!
As usual we picked the wrong time of year to take a little break and head for
Ellensburg and daughter Jennifer's home. With near 90 degrees here on the
Olympic Peninsula, even the nights hold onto the heat. At six this morning,
with all the doors and windows open, it was 75 degrees. So once across the
Cascades and heading down the eastern slope, temperatures will be in the low
100's. Too hot for my aging bones, and with no air conditioning in the truck,
it promises to be a memorable trip. We had it repaired twice and it went out
again in less than a year. No point in putting that much money into a 13 year
old vehicle. Usually we listen to Talking Books on our trips, but with all
windows down, listening will be next to impossible. From here in Quilcene, it
is about a four hour drive, assuming the traffic is light...which it never is
on a Friday afternoon. Fortunately Jennifer and Don live on a tree lined road
with lots of big old shade trees in folks back yards. In Ellensburg, the
breeze blows most of the time, and this house was built to take advantage of
it. So we'll play a little Liverpool and Cathy can challenge Don to a video
golf game or two, while I catch up on the family gossip. Don's Parkinson's has
advanced to a point where he can no longer control his golf clubs, and Cathy's
arthritis has attacked her fingers with a vengeance. Sure takes the fun out of
golf. But they are pretty darn good with the controllers, playing all the
world's finest golf courses. When it gets too hot I'll sweet talk my daughter
into driving me to a local ice-cream shop near the university, and I'll break
training with a huge bowl of a couple of their chocolate specialties.
On one Saturday each month the folks in the area host a street fair and
combination food market. Lots of home grown fruits and vegetables and fresh
home-baked breads and pastries. This Saturday just happens to be Street Fair
Day. I'll break training again. By the time we return home I'll probably have
crept back over the 240 pound mark.
But that's worth it.
Here's hoping you all have as good a long weekend as we will. See you back on
line come Monday late afternoon.
