Tasty words, for sure. But the real trick, one that Donald Trump
seems not to be learning, is to arrange your words in such a manner
that you never need to eat them. Between 1975 and 1993, I worked at
the Washington state Department of Services for the Blind. Between
1979 and 1993 I served as first, director of the Orientation and
Training Center, and for three years as Assistant Director over Field
Services. Having observed those before me in those positions, I knew
that survival meant that I could never speak anything but the truth,
no matter how hard it was. And that truth had to be served up in a
sauce that could be ingested by one and all.
I survived. Even as our agency and the blind community went through
some horrific years, I survived. But I must honestly say that I would
never do it again. The very worst part of government work is the dry
reports and the manipulation of words to say exactly what is
happening, without exposing the short comings...of which every program
has. Writing truthfully while putting just the right spin on what you
are reporting. And all the while you are working with the dullest of
rules and regulations.
So now, I am free!!! Free at last!!! And I can say and write
whatever takes my fancy. Today I can blast Hillary Clinton. Tomorrow
I might praise her. It's refreshing to no longer worry about sugar
coating.
