I'll go Hedges one better here. The fascism and crumbling society he
describes here is a direct cause of much of the violence we see every day
including the horrible shootings like the one that just occurred in San
Bernardino and the recent Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado..
Furthermore, this fascism has been an effective recruiting tool for
organizations like ISIS and Al Qaeda. It gives credence to the idea that we
are an evil empire worthy of destruction. I'd say that this piece by Hedges
helps to explain the rise of ISIS and Al Qaeda. And, it's not just America
that is traveling this sad path; more and more, it is also Europe and
Canada.
Frankly, I'm beginning to wish I were your age because you're less likely to
be around for what could be a terrible end game.
