I just reread a Greenwald article that I posted, perhaps yesterday. He
writes flamboyantly, but his points were well taken. When the Bush
administration was committing all sorts of atrocities, Democrats were
outraged. When Obama, a black highly educated Democratic President,
continued to commit those atrocities and added to them, no one said a
mumbling word. I do remember one of our black female icons saying something
like, "He's young and we have to give him time to learn". Then we get Trump,
a white, wealthy, mentally ill President, and we get him, not because the
Russians were able to influence huge numbers of votes, but because the
Democratic Party insisted on running an unpopular, elitist candidate, and
consciously destroying the closest gthing we had to a new deal Democratic
Candidate who was popular with white and black working class and middle
class people. And why did the Democrats do that? Because they were serving
the interests of their very wealthy donors. They may have socially liberal
values. But when it comes to real politics, what matters is keeping the
wealthy elites in power. And when this insane destructive man takes office
and begins comitting crimes against the people, instead of impeaching him
for those crimes, they wait and wait and then attempt to impeach him for
something unproven and irrelevant, allegations of collusion which over and
over again, and just recently, once again, have been shown to be false and
irrelefant. But in the same way that Trump supporters have been manipulated
into thinking that this election was rigged against him, Democratic voters
have been manipulated into thinking that the Russians are to blame for their
problems and that the Democratic Party represents their interests. The
Democratic Party which ensured that an arch conservative white man with
Dementia and a Black Female vice President, who happens to be consservative
and elitist in her views, will save them. And people, seemingly intelligent,
educated people like my daughter, the lawyer, like members of this list and
of others, believe the lies and see the world in terms of the good guys, us,
and the bad guys, them.
