This book is a must read for all you die hard Democrats. Not that I haven't
become disillusioned with the political party which I inherited by virtue of
being part of a working class family living in New York City. And I've
certainly learned all sorts of distressing things about what Clinton did as
President, ever since I've had access to so many articles and to books,
particularly the ones on Bookshare. But I didn't know, until reading Thomas
Frank's book this morning, that Clinton wanted to privatize Social Security
and Medicare. I already knew that the 2008 crash was related to all of
those laws Clinton pushed on behalf of his banking friends in his cabinet
and his other advisors. I knew that he'd destroyed welfare. But I didn't
know about social security. He was planning private brokerage accounts
before W. Bush ever talked about them, and he was planning to cut benefits
and raise the eligibility age. The "Grand bargain", the "Washington
Concensus", is the agreement among those who consider themselves to be
superior by virtue of their education and intellect and who, therefore, can
work in a bipartisan manner to do what they believe is best for, well, I
guess we could have a debate about whom their policies benefit. But it seems
to me, they benefit the very wealthy.
