When I listen to NPR, less and less often, it's as if I've stepped into a
movie or play or, I guess, a reality show. I doubt that people realize how
much their perceptions are molded by the main stream media because almost
all of the information that they have, has been filtered through it. I
stopped watching TV a few years ago. Just last week, I gave my TV to my
younger daughter because, since I watch so seldom, the remote kept becoming
unprogrammed and/or the batteries in it went bad. She had a very small TV
and I had a lovely 48 inch flat screen. But I know what the MSM is telling
people because I read much of it in articles, see videos of it on the
computer, and hear NPR. However, my perceptions of what is happening in the
world, come from Democracy Now and from the articles and opinion pieces I
read. During Bernie's campaign, I could compare what was being said about it
on NPR and in the NYT and Washington Post, to what I was reading about it on
the web and to watching his speeches on video that were given throughout the
country. The same thing is true about the coup in Ukraine and the
involvement of Russia. What was reported in the MSM was very different from
what was being reported by investigative reporters and even the BBC. The
coverage of Israel/Palestine is another example. In spite of the assertions
to the contrary, most Americans do believe what the media tell them about
our economic situation and our wars. They're suspiscious of anything that is
counter to the agreed upon narrative. That's why they can accept the
demonization of Putin and Assad while never questioning our alliance with
Saudi Arabia or Barraine. That's why they can be horrified at the position
on immigrants espoused by Trump and Arpeo while closing their eyes to what
ICE is doing to immigrants every day, to the imprisoning of immigrantwomen
and children in private run prisons without hearings, people who have come
here for asylum or out of economic need caused by our country's policies.
The story that we are told is that Clinton will save us from Trump and that
therefore, Clinton should be wholeheartedly supported. But her support of
the coup in Honduras and the forces there who murder activists, is one of
the causes of the flood of immigrants into the US and she then supported
sending all of these people back to Honduras to death and destruction. She
supported the dismantling of Libya in the service of european financial
interests which has contributed to the formation of ISIS. She was involved
in supporting the coup in Ukraine. The Clinton Foundation supported the
construction of sweat shops in Haiti as a means of reconstructing the
country after the earthquake and discouraged the development of farming and
industry by the Haitian people. All of this stuff has been reported, but
not on TV, not on NPR, and if it was in the NYT, it was buried somewhere so
that no one seems to have noticed it. If one notices and remembers, then one
can't settle back into one's comfort zone and pretend that if we avoid
Trump, we'll all be OK.

It has been proven over and over that
repetition of simple slogans can brainwash Americans. Despite knowing that
large corporations own the mass media, including our daily newspapers, we
talk about the "left leanings" of the media.
We like to believe that our nation is the healthiest and provides the best
and latest medical care, despite our standings in health services, their
cost, and our poor standing on the world's healthiest People list.
What disconnects our brains from the real world is the constant pounding of
misinformation.
It is no accident that we receive our information via short clips, little
snippets. Our attention span has been conditioned by the constant hammering
of short commercials, to be unable to lock in to a subject for more than a
minute at a time. Even thinking for ourselves becomes a difficult labor.
We have been conditioned to being told. I can't begin to count the times I
have touched upon some political issue or another, only to be told, "I'm not
political. Politics are boring, and besides, most politicians are crooks
out to line their own pockets". So they are bored, but won't do anything
about what they believe are crimes being committed by politicians. This is
all planted propaganda.
Remember, the most effective propaganda is that which leaves you unaware
that you have been propagandized.
As for NPR, when the network removed Bob Edwards and replaced him with the
cool "Bobbsy Twins", Steve and Renee, they also instituted a new "fairness"
policy. This policy was in deference to those corporations who were
"generously" giving money to support NPR. And from that day forward, NPR
has stood for, New Promoter of the Rich.
Even though Hillary Clinton denies it, money does buy loyalty. So all we
need to do is to listen to those contributors to NPR ti to learn who is
being favored.
Now is that so hard to do?

from corporations such as those in the fossil fuel industry, and they
are very mainstream, very much like the New York Times and the Democratic
