Carl,
I've been listening to Paul Jay for nearly an hour. Now I know why they got rid
of him. He is so smart, too smart. Anyway, he was living in NYC for a time and
then after the virus struck, he was able to move back to Canada, to a farm. But
he is talking about why we should vote for the Democratic candidate, and you
absolutely must find this interview that was done with him by a German
journalist. He's talking about pragmatism and about the two sets of Capitalists
represented by the two parties and he certainly doesn't sugar coat anything.
And no, it isn't that Biden is the good guy. You just really need to find that
interview. I put the podcast feed on my stream and the interview is the first
thing that downloaded. He does have some facts about who owns what in the US
and there are two or three capital funds that own almost everything, the media,
the military contractors, the tech companies. And he does predict that if Trump
gets 4 more years, we'll have Fascism akin to what developed in Europe in the
30's.

I remember the cover of a national magazine from around 1939 or 1940, showing
bulldozers pushing piles of apples into the Columbia River.
The apples had been sprayed with some chemical that turned the apples purple,
so they could not be sold. And yet, poverty ruled America.
The real "Recovery" did not take hold until the US began tooling up to produce
war materials. All of Roosevelt's efforts were struggling to keep the nation
afloat. Of course in part it was due to the Republican's blocking passage of
reform legislation.
But speaking of voting, I believe that casting a vote is the last act
in a long process. My neighbor decided to "get active" back around
1967 or 1968. I was a precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party.
My neighbor offered me a ride, and we began attending the local Democratic
Party meetings. My neighbor attended one meeting during which we voted on a
candidate slate. He was a conservative Democrat, and had a list of names not
well received. My neighbor spoke for each name on his list, failing to win
most of them. He was very bitter as we drove home. I tried explaining that
these people had been meeting together for years, and he couldn't expect to
just show up and sway them with his silver tongue. I said that in four years,
if he worked at it, he could expect to have changed some votes. But that would
take a lot of involvement. Instead, he dropped out of the local politics.
From the time this nation was first formed, the debate has gone forward
regarding whether we should be directed by people who were invested in the
nation, or by the Masses. Many of our early Statesmen were afraid of the
Masses. It was argued that the nation would prosper if directed by those
having the most invested in its success.
And remember, this was a time when the right to vote was given only to White
men 21 years of age and older, who were property owners or financially well off.
These early Forefathers would scarcely recognize today's Constitution.
Anyway, I swing this way and that because I do not see any strong National
Leadership. Probably I'm more active than most people my age, but that's not
saying much.
Besides, I truly believe that our nation has been taken over by the
Military/Industrialists, and it is only a matter of time until we are living
under a Totalitarianism And perhaps a "Peaceful" takeover is for the best,
since we're already well along that road.
For the most part, I'm merely an observer, not possessing near the level of
energy to "make a difference". And besides, I am slowly losing my memory.

Carl,
Remember what Ryan Grin said. Your heart doesn't have to be in it.
Voting is instrumental. In other words, it's just a way to survive,
not to change the world. And the more one listens to all of the
discussion of political theory, the more obvious this becomes. I
mentioned a podcast, The Sensible Socialist. The guy who runs it is
part of whatever school of socialism, Richard Wolff is part of. He
interviewed someone on the episode to which I listened today, who's from
Texas and who is, if I got this right, a Maoist.
They were talking about Marx, Lenin, and Mao, the versions of
socialism espoused by each, their practical application. The Maoists
talk about how the revolution, which is an armed revolution, can most
pragmatically be started in rural areas. He mentioned Bundi. Unlike
the Militant, he recognizes that Bundi and his followers are right
wing. Nevertheless, he respects them for fighting back against the
government. So much for Chris Hedges' peaceful revolution in the
streets. All I want is for them to stop pouring out the milk, breaking
the eggs, and ploughing under the crops because they can't sell them.
I want them to find a way to preserve that food and transport it to
everyone who is hungry and stop destroying it because they're not
making a profit. But I don't want to kill folks in order to make that happen.
I just found the podcasts on my stream from The Analysis.News. I'm so
pleased.

You are welcome, Miriam.
It is confusing when looking at the big picture. I understand that
some folks are real sticklers when it comes to their belief that they
have the absolute truth everlasting...oops, now I'm sounding like one
of those Right Wing Preachers. To my way of thinking, we'll never see
the sort of government that I envision, because the very center of
such a government calls for everyone being involved, educated to their
potential, and ready to defend the rights of those around them.
So, maybe I should vote for Joe Biden in an effort to slow down the
crumbling of the American Empire. But if I do, my heart will not be in it.
How do I justify voting for a government that will do very little to
solve the issues that have caused such misery and uncertainty for the
Working Class.

Carl,
Thanks so much for sending this. I have been wondering what happened
to him.
There was a right wing coup at The Real News network and he was
tossed out.
I suppose it is similar to what happened at Truthdig. But without its
best contributors and Bob Scheer, Truthdig disappeared. The Real News
has continued with some of the same people and content. But when Paul
was there, they had people from The Grayzone like max Blumenthal and
Aaron Mate. Some of the content has changed too. The people they're
advertising in this email, haven't been on The Real News. It's like
what happened to Democracy Now. There's the Left and then there's the
Left. It's becoming very confusing.

Hi, I'm Paul Jay, Senior Editor of theAnalysis.news I'm fed up with
the superficial partisan punditry that passes for news analysis. Are
you? We are in the most dangerous moment in human history, all of
our lives are on the line. Instead of going deeper, corporate news
infantilizes the national discourse. As the economy moves into a deep
depression, conditions for the rise of a broad people’s movement will
develop. Mass unemployment could spark spontaneous resistance. But
without organization and consciousness, revolts cannot be sustained
and have little direction. Worse, the far-right will assume
leadership. Will we be ready for it? We must face up to the climate
crisis and the threat of war and nuclear war. As resistance to
economic injustice grows, we can't lose sight of these existential threats.
