Carl, while most people will remember Bob for his political outspokenness I
will also remember him for all the good times we had together; many dinners and
drinks and friendship.

Bob Hachey
Thank you Frank, and thank you Brian.
Certainly the news is not that which we wanted to hear, but many of us waited
for any news regarding Bob's progress. While we struggle with COVID-19, we
need to remember that we are living in the age of the Mother of all pandemics,
Cancer. It is Cancer that has robbed us all of the many years of Bob's future
contributions. We are all the worse for it.
Bob, I only knew you as an Email Friend, but I considered you to be a real
comrade in the struggle toward equality for the Blind.
Your friend,
Carl Jarvis

Subject: [BSCB Announce] Announcing the passing of Bob Hachey
As the President of the Bay State Council of the Blind, and as a
long-time friend of Bob and his wife, Donna, it is with much
unhappiness that I must let you know that our friend Robert "Bob"
Hachey passed away today, September 14, 2020, after a long illness.
Bob served the blind community for many years in many different
capacities including as BSCB President. He served on the Board of the
Disability Policy Consortium, the Massachusetts Commission for the
Blind Rehabilitation Council, and as the Moderator of both BSCB and ACB email
lists.
BSCB will be holding an online memorial service for Bob in the near future.
We hope many of you will be able to attend the service to be held
later this month. We will also be paying tribute to Charlie Crawford,
founding member of BSCB and former Executive Director of ACB as well
as other BSCB members who have passed away sense we last met as an
organization.
The BSCB board has established a scholarship in Bob's honor and will
be holding an online auction in October to begin to fund this new effort.
In lieu of flowers, an account will be set up to assist Bob's family
with related expenses associated with his care. Details on how to
contribute to this initiative will be sent out as the arrangements are
finalized.
I know that you all join me in extending our heart-felt condolences to
Donna and the other members of Bob's family.
Please continue to watch this email list for more information on how
you will be able to attend the memorial service or participate in the
other efforts being undertaken in Bob's memory. Bob was so passionate
about everything he touched. With him gone, we will need to fill the
many positions he held in our organization including as editor of
Baylines and Moderator of the BSCB email lists.
If you are interested in honoring Bob by following in his footsteps in
any of these roles, please reach out to me via email at
briancharlson@xxxxxxxxxxx. I know that Bob would wish for nothing more
than for the work of BSCB and ACB to march forward.
My friend, rest in peace!
Brian Charlson, President
Bay State Council of the Blind
