It's been a terrifying, exhilarating, roller-coaster in Illinois these past
90 days to gather petitions to get Jill on the Illinois ballot.
We've rented an office in downtown Chicago for our Northern Illinois team.
Nancy Wade is supervising the gathering of all petitions today into one huge
pile.
Here's what's happening: The action is centered in Chicago, Bloomington, and
Carbondale.Tomorrow, is the day we've all been working toward. That's when
Illinois Ballot Access Coordinator Nancy Wade files our petitions in
Illinois. But-the filing date is only Phase I. (More on that in a second.)

An All-Nighter in Downtown Chicago
Nancy and her team are working today, from 10AM until 12 Midnight, to pay
out bonuses and wages, collect, sort and scrub the petitions, and put
everything into one big stack.
Midnight will probably come and go because every signature line has to be
numbered. Every page has to be scanned to create a permanent record of this
massive document.
Tomorrow morning, the Northern Illinois team leaves at 7AM for Springfield
and the Secretary of State's office. On the way, they'll stop in Bloomington
to pick up even more signatures.
Rich Whitney, former Green Illinois Governor candidate, is driving up from
Carbondale, also stopping along the way to pick up signatures from our
Southern Illinois teams.

The goal is to get everything to the Secretary of State by 3pm. The absolute
last minute to file is 5PM.
Whew!
But it's not over. Filing is the end of Phase I. By law, Illinois accepts
the petitions-then any registered voter has 10 days to challenge the
petitions.
And that's when expenses start up again. If challenged, each signature is
reviewed line by line. The challenger can accept or challenge each
signature. They have to give a reason for each challenge. And Stein2016 has
to defend each signature. We don't know what kind of help-legal or
staff-we'll need.
The $75,000 We've Raised Together
To Pay For Petitions May Just Be The Beginning
Of What We'll Really Need
If challenged, we don't know how much it will cost us to
defend our signatures and protect Jill's ballot access line.
But whatever it takes, we will get it done.
So you'll be getting updates on any challenge news over the next 11 days.
But here's the thing: whatever it costs, we know that we'll need to fight
our way onto several ballots through the courts, and legal costs will be a
significant drain on campaign finances. They are duopoly-set minefields we
must be prepared to clear.
Do not doubt for a second that Hillary and the Clintonistas will jump into
action as the groundswell for Jill continues.

or as a Jill champion spreading the good word of the Green New Deal and an
end to diplomacy at the end of a gun, single-payer health care and a
restored planet.
