I also felt like so many terrible things were happening during the Obama
administration, like the dismantling of Occupy and the police actions
against demonstrators at the convention. If those things were happening
during a Democratic administration, what horrors can we expect now? And now,
they won't allow demonstrations. The police departments and the federal
government will act like North Dakota has been acting toward the water
protectors. Just think back at what Obama has permitted and at the police
state that he's built and that he is handing over to the Republicans.

I had the same feeling you did. All those demonstrations and we get four
years of Republican rule. Some of the speakers said what we have to do is
more demonstrations, more activism. I fear that having the moral high
ground won't work against police willing to use stun guns, guns, or whatever
it takes to subdue descent.

Tonight was the 20th anniversary celebration for this program.
Unfortunately, it was not broadcast on WBAI radio as I had hoped, so I
missed a lot of it while cooking and eating dinner and doing dishes. But I
did get to hear about 90 minutes of it, streaming from the website. I'm
sorry I missed so many of the speakers, but I did hear a good deal of
Chomsky and Danny Glover, Patty Smith's singing, a review of many of the
important news stories, and a lovely talk by Jeremy Scahill. Along with the
fact that it is really such a phenomenal program and has taught me so much
over the past 7 or 8 years that I've been listening to it, hearing again,
bits of the stories the program has covered, was really heartbreaking
because if you pay attention, you can see how everything has led up to this
terrible moment in which we find ourselves.
