Hi Roger and all,
Yes, I'm still here.
I know a Salvadoran dreamer very well. WE served together on a nonprofit board.
She was brought to America as a seven-year-old. She has 5 children, all born
here. The youngest is now ten.
Since the Trumpster became president, she has been hastled by ICE. I didn't
have the heart to ask her why she doesn't have a green card. Frankly, I'm not
very familiar with the process of getting a green card. Fearing what Trump
might do, she applied for one in early 2017. She has had to report for three
meetings of some sort. She fears that she could be deported at any time,
especially since Trump declared war on DACA and ended the assumption of refugee
status for Salvadorans. The last I heard, she doesn't have to report to ICE now
until October.
I keep asking myself why anyone would want to come here now. Then again, if I
were in fear of violence on a daily basis, I'd maybe want to escape my
homeland. On the other hand, the US government is the number 1 cause of
violence throughout the world.
What a mess!
