CLEVELAND — Participants in the Movement for Black Lives conference in
Cleveland protest the death in police custody of Sandra Bland at a rally
on July 25. More than 1,000 participants in fights against police
brutality from all over the country, overwhelmingly youth, attended the
conference. In one powerful session, more than 20 families affected by
police and racist violence addressed the crowd with two-minute
descriptions of their cases. Relatives of Emmett Till, Oscar Grant, Eric
Garner, Michael Brown, and Tamir Rice were among those who spoke.
Participants in the July 24-26 conference took part in workshops and
plenary sessions on police violence.
