Miriam, other way around. Microsoft has done its part and put the proper
accessibility hooks into Edge. JAWS now has to take advantage of that. The BETA
of JAWS 2018 supposdely does to a certain extent.

On the Jaws list, they say that in a few months, Edge will become compatible
with Jaws.

I've not tried Edge. As for Chrome, when it first came out I downloaded it to
try it out. It was completely unusable. I don't mean it would not function
right. I mean that there was nothing on the screen but garble. I removed it
from my computer and on email lists I learned that the problem was that it was
not compatible with screen readers. As time went by I came to understand that
its accessibility had considerably improved. I still took a long time to try it
again. Then I started hearing on email lists that it was so fast and that it
was now perfectly compatible with screen readers. Also, every time I visited
Google there was an ad for it telling me that Google works better with Chrome.
So I decided to give it another chance. It turns out that Google really does
work better with it. For one thing some of the buttons and links that do not
show as buttons and links in I E do show up that way in Chrome and Google pages
seem to load faster too. However, once I leave Google pages it is a different
matter. For one thing, autocomplete in the address field does work, but JAWS
doesn't speak it. That means that unless I am sure that I remember the last URL
with the initial letters I am using I end up on the wrong web site. Then I find
that if I try to copy a URL pressing control+f6 does not return me to the page.
I have to press enter refreshing the page. Perhaps there is another way to
close the address bar, but I haven't found it. One reason I do still sometimes
use it is because Google News does work better with it. But again. when I click
a news story and leave Google it acts up again. For example, if I find a news
article that I want to share on this list I go to the address bar and copy the
URL and then go back to the article and copy that and append it to my
clipboard. With Chrome the article does not copy and I get only the URL. I have
found that it is best. to just copy that URL and alt tab back to I E and paste
it into the address bar there. An other problem it has is check boxes. I have
only tried it on one particular site for that purpose, but when I try to check
a check box there it won't check. I am tempted to just give up on Chrome and
remove it except for the fact that it really does work better on Google pages
as long as I stay on Google.

I’ve found Chrome and Edge to be worthless at this point. Microsoft even admits

That's why I have three browsers on my computer. If something doesn't work with
one then I try another. Frankly, though, I use Chrome as a last resort.

Chuck,
Thanks so much. You’ve included the bits and pieces that somehow got lost when
Frank copied the article. I’m keeping your version.
