As we entered the crowded hotel ballroom in Silverdale, people just
kept coming in behind us until all seats were filled and hotel staff
rushed about to bring more chairs. What struck me most was the
feeling that this was a large family reunion, rather than a memorial.
We were all part of Sue's extended family, each one of us touched by
her in a special way.
What an amazing example of the ripples that go on forever when one
person decides to leap into the middle of things.
Many folks expressed their respect and love for Sue. Many smiles
covered the sparkle of tears that seemed to slip out from behind our
uplifting praise. Praise for a job better than well done. From as
far away as Massachusetts, Texas, Missouri, California, Oregon and all
corners of our own state of Washington, we came to express respect
and love. For me, to have worked beside Sue, to have watched her grow
and impact the entire disability struggle, and mostly to call her my
dear friend, it was the close of an awesome chapter that can never be
repeated.
Thank you, Sue. What a different world it would have been if you had
not taken that plunge so many years ago.
