He talked about two different Islamic groups that are totally opposed to
each other so he clearly wasn't doing what he did for religious reasons.
Additionally, the FBI was pushing the Islamic motive, even though they
already knew that his motive was personal. Their motive is that whenever
they can make it appear that Islamic terrorism is the motive for a crime,
their funding is increased. This is why they lure so many marginal people
into plots. This was all explained in an article which quoated a former FBI
agent that I read yesterday. There's so much lying and obfiscation that
most of us can't tell what is really happening. It's no accident!

Two points here.
1. No doubt that the strategy of trying to entice potential whackos to
participate in mass murder plots is highly dubious at best.
2. The fact that Mateen threatened to have al Qaeda operatives kill one's
family is a major red flag, not necessarily that Mateen is a member of such
a group, but that he is a potential hazard both to himself and to society at
large. I guess the $64,000.00 question is what, if anything should we do in
the face of such threats.
