Welcome to the list, Chris and Mike - and anyone else who signed up recently.

I will be working with Uncle Richard to provide what I hope will be interesting chess stuff. On Tuesday I started by sending brief chess history articles. I have not had any feedback, but will submit a third article tonight anyway.

I hope everyone will not be shy about saying what you would like to appear here, because finding "it" is part of my role here.

I also hope to help out by providing a "question and answer" service. If anyone has a chess-related question please feel free to send it to me, on or off the list, and I will do the research to try to find the answer. I am going to be away from the list for the last half of April while my wife and I travel to New England (I am originally from Boston but now live in Hawaii) and Montreal, but I will get to work when I get back. Want to know the story behind Caissa, the Godess of Chess? Or why a certain opening is called the "Monkey's bum"? (There really is such an opening!) Ask and thou shalt be answered, I hope.

You can also submit a chess position or diagram, and ask what is the best move here? No fair to do that with a correspondence game in progress, but a position from a past game, from a book, or one you made up is fair game.

At some point in the future we also hope to offer a service where list members can submit a game and we'll try to annotate it, explaining this-and-that along the way.

So we do have some good ideas on the drawing board. Feel Free to offer your own suggestions. Blind-Chess was started to do just this sort of thing - and to have everyone take part in learning and sharing.

Rod Macdonald
