This is what I would do: 1. Qg6 fxg6 (this forces black to take my queen because if he does not, I can move queen to h7 for mate) 2. Nxg6++ Most people do not think about giving up your queen in order to win the game, because most of us think about how to win with our queen. A lesson to search all possibilities when looking for a strategic plan. Win at Chess problem 1 See below ... ----- Original Message ----- Okay, here is my guess. * Yoda says "do not guess, know!" <grin> 1. Ng6+ fxg6 2. Qxg6... does not matter what black moves * How about 2... Bg8? 3. Qh7++ White queen is backed up by two pieces... knight on f6 and the bishop on c2. * But 3... Bxh7 loses the Queen anyway. So how is that? * You are close but maybe you should consider other move orders. ----- Original Message ----- From: R Dinger To: blind-chess@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, May 25, 2010 11:25 AM Subject: [blind-chess] Alvin, Re: Win at Chess problem 1 Hi Alvin, My comments follow yours: ----- Original Message ----- OK, here are my choices and reasons: 1. Nxh5, gains a Pawn, but places a Knight on the rim. * there is no pawn at h5, maybe you did not reset correctly after a test move? 2. Nxf7+ gains a Pawn and forks the King, in check, with a Queen and a Rook. Capture the Queen and lose the Night, still ahead by 7 points and remove a major piece from the board. * After 1. Nxf7 black takes the Knight 1... Bxf7 foiling your fork. 3. Trade Knights with: Nxc6 . # there is something better. Hint: White can force mate in two moves. Does anyone else have an idea?
