Dr. Z.

Very nice, but2. Re4 can't be the best move for White. Instead of 2. .Qh2+,
Black has 2. . Qd1+ which leads to mate.

3. Qe1 qxe1+ White blocks check with Queen, Black takes Queen with Queen
check

4. Rxe1 Rxe1++ White takes Queen with Rook, Black takes Rook with mate

Or

3. Re1 Rxe1+ White blocks check with Rook, Black takes Rook with Rook check

4. Qxe1 Qxe1++ White takes Rook with Queen, Black takes Queen with mate

Or

3. Re1 Qxe1 White blocks check with Rook, Queen takes Rook with check

4. Qxe1 Rxe1++ White takes Queen, Rook takes Queen with mate

Subject: [blind-chess] Spoiler Alert Problem WAC075

Hello all,
Doctor Z has his scalpel ready. My solution:
1. -Qd6 (attacking the queen and threatening checkmate)
White has many options, but most of them are bad.
2. Qxd6 (Queen takes queen.) Rxe1++ (Queen protected rook at e1 and knight
at g4 prevents Kh2.)
2. Qxg4 (Queen takes knight.) Rxe1++ (Rook takes rook. Queen prevents Kh2.)
White gets aggressive and attacks, but the situation does not improve.
2. Rxe8+ (Rook takes rook for check.) Rxe8 (Rook takes rook.)
2. Bd2 (Bishop protects both the queen and rook.) Qh2+
3. Kf1 Qh1++ (The king cannot use e2 because of rook at e8.)
Best move for white is the following:
2. Re4 (Rook protects queen and makes e2 an escape square.) Qh2+
3. Kf1 Qh1+
4. Ke2 Qxc1 (Queen takes bishop.)
5. hxg4 (Pawn takes knight.)
or
4. -Nh2 (Knight moves closer to queen allowing Qf1+ later.)
Edward
