Hello Puzzlers,
Black queen at d7 threatens white knight at a7.
If the black queen captures the white knight at a7, the white queen can
capture the black knight at e6. I propose moving the knight at e6 to a safe
square first.
If Na7 moves to c6, the knight at e7 captures it. If Na7 moves to b5,
black cannot capture unless knight moves to d4.
A black knight at d4 is protected by both the queen at d7 and the rook at
d8.
Doctor Z is ready to operate. My solution:
1. …Nd4
2. Qa6 Ra8
3. Qxb6 {Queen captures pawn.} Qxa7 {Queen captures knight.}
4. Qxa7 {Queen captures queen.} Rxa7 {Rook captures queen.}
Black ends up sacrificing a pawn to get the knight.
Edward
