Hi Richard
Gosh, lets keep it simple! I think option 1 is a good one and simple.

Hi Connie,

Thanks for a good question. The current

ladder rules make no provision for long games or blocking someone's progress

because of a long game. Some ideas are as follows:

1) Early in the Ladder Tournament, Mike A. noted

that the FTP Ladder allowed you to challenge the first available player above

you at the time of the challenge. We can adopt that rule if most

agree.

2) Another solution that Nightrider and I were

discussing recently was to allow ignoring the two players on the ladder after a

game goes on for more than (say) 4 weeks. Something like the vacation mode

I proposed a month or so ago. Then others would "play around" those in the

long game.

3) Yet another approach to our Ladder would be to

allow challenging anyone on the ladder that is available, but (optionally?)

assess a penalty in position if you lose. So, for example, if you

challenge someone 5 rungs above you and lose, you would go down 3 rungs instead

of just remaining on your current position, because you challenged 3 rungs

higher than usual.

4) Another variation is for winner and loser in a

challenge to actually swap positions when the challenger wins instead of the

winner just moving over the loser.

5) At the same time I would like to propose that if

a player wants to challenge more than one available player it should be

allowed. The game load would remain at one game at a time if you want

since you cannot have any pending challenges, but if someone wants to have more

than one game going, that is their choice. Resolution of Ladder position

depends on the order in which the games are completed.

Any additional suggestions or comments on any of

these ideas?

Richard

  Question

Hi Richard,
I was wondering...what happens to players

on the ladder when other players are taking a very long time playing their

game? This situation currently exists on the Ladder. How can players get past

those players in a very long game?
