You are right, Darel. What I propose is not quite sharing.
Bookshare could provide a step one and a half (if you will) such that all books on step 1.5 would contain partially validated books but not ready for production yet.
Bookshare wouldn't have to provide anything except disk space and the code to allow someone to upload a book to this new step.
This would allow someone who has worked on a difficult book but can't finish it from losing all their work. The credits would go to the initial submitter and final validator.

There's always the chance, no matter how slim, that this back-channel
sharing could permit the file to land in the hands of an unauthorized
person.  I certainly don't begrudge Benetech's desire to exercise maximum
precautions.

Good idea and very kind of you Curtis, but bookshare won't allow it.

How would you ever get the book back to them without sharing it. It's a
ridiculous rule and I rant about it whenever I can, but it is the way things 
are.
