Hi Cindy,
The manual doesn't state a preference for either one or three asterisks between
an opening quote and the text of a chapter. Some of us have talked about it
off-list and we've started using only one. Sometimes it seems like the
asterisks get a bit out of hand. At this point, though, it's just personal
preference.
I would eliminate the asterisk between the quote and the attribution. I just
make sure the attribution is on a separate line and it seems clear enough
without the addition of yet another asterisk. Just my opinion, though.
And, yes, you can call me Deb if you like.

asterisk after a quote at the beginning of a chapter? I've been putting 3
asterisks between quotation and the attribution and again between that and the
main text; in the first instance the quote was a sort poem so I had put a
single * between verses, bu tin the rest of the book and the one I'm working n
now I've been putting 3; The first beek has been neither accepted yet nor
rejected; If it's rejected with a note that there shold only be one * it will
be easy enough to chAange

Does that make sense.
The three asterisks are used to indicate a scene change. The single asterisk
is used in a few situations--between stanzas of poetry, between a quote at
the beginning of a chapter and the rest of the page, or at the beginning and
end of a letter.
It sounds like the submitter knew what he/she was doing, so I'd probably
leave the asterisks alone.
Asterisks are also used to indicate a footnote at the bottom of a page, but
that doesn't sound like what you have.

Hey there everyone!
Hopefully everyone is having a great day here at bks! Say I am
currently working on The Others By Kristin Bryant and I have a quick
question in regards to a certain symbol that is appearing in this
book. I looked at the guidelines last evening and I didn't find
anything about how we are suppose to address symbols like *which is
the shift along with the number eight on the top row of the keyboard.
So my question is am I suppose to have a certain number of break marks
around the *? Also sometimes I'm seeing one * and sometimes I'm seeing
three stars in a row like this of ***. Are there any specific
guidelines to how we are to handle these type of symbols? Here's what
I'm running into of there will be some text then the * and then more
text which right now I'm placing two break marks or returns before and
after the stars here. Any help would be greatly appreciated to how I'm
suppose to deal with this type of symbol that is appearing in this
book. Thanks for everyones help with this one and I do hope everyone

Hey there everyone again!
Hopefully everyone is having a great evening. I just have a few more
questions in regards to this new stuff from my book. Okay looking at
the guidelines it sounds like it wants me to put the * than a space
which I get no problem. However it’s also stating that the blank lines
will be removed so does that mean it’s wanting no returns around it or
blank lines? So should it be like this of the following of: text, * *
* and than more text? Also should there be three stars for every time
I come across it or is it okay to to leave it as a single star
throughout the text? Sorry for all of the questions but I’m only
wanting to do this correctly so this book can make it to the
collection smiles! Thanks for all the help and I hope all are having a
