Rebecca, You're probably just doing something wrong like when you said Ctrl-Shift-F instead of Ctrl-F. Ctrl-Shift-F changes the font. Make sure you didn't change the direction of the search, set it to match the case (uppercase/lowercase), specify formatting for it to find, or something else which could cause you to not find the word. Also, keep in mind that if you're searching a book which was scanned, then the word might be misspelled due to a problem with the OCR software not recognizing the word correctly. I'd suggest shutting down Word in case you changed anything, opening the file back up, then searching for the word again. To search press Ctrl-F, enter the string, then press Enter. If you don't find it, then try another word like "and" or "the" which is definitely in the file. That way you'll at least know that your search is working.
