Cindy, I do exactly what you did as a scanner. Cat Lover Lori----- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy Rosenthal" <popularplace@xxxxxxxxx>

Yes, scanning with prevalidating actually takes longer than validating because one is doing the physical scanning as well as what Bud describes below. When I used to scan books I scanned the whole book, then prevalidated it, the same way I now validate, i.e., I proofread it and then did a final spell-check. That way one also finds missing or duplicated pages. That is why, I'm sure, originally scanners got $2.50 credit and validators only 50 cents credit. The problem was that many submitters did not do a careful job but quickly scanned and submitted without doing any kind of checking or validating, and we validators had a much more time-consuming job, so that the pay difference wasn't at all fair. I read fifty pages and then go back over them and get the title and author deleted and check out all the page numbers. I also make any corrrections I hear as I scan and read. Then I do another fifty pages and do the same to them until the book is finished. Then I do a spell check and take care of as many of those as is possible considering all the accents in speech and intentional poor grammar. So I can't give you a figure in hours as to how long it takes because it depends on the length of the book and whether it's a poor paperback. So if it's done right it takes hours and hours. I'm sure all scanners do it in different ways, but that's basically how I do it. Bud At 12:07 PM 12/14/2008, you wrote: >Good day validators and submitters, > >How long does it take to scan a book?
