I don't remember whether Kurzweil 5 opened BRF files or not. If it can you
would just open it like you would any other file. Look at the result in
Kurzweil to see if it was translated or not. If it was you can just choose
save as from the file menu and select RTF in the list of file types
presented. I don't think DOC is an option.
Duxbury can certainly save a file as a TXT and I don't know any
disadvantage to that format for reading something that once was a braille
file. If you desperately want it to be an RTF for some reason why not copy
the translated file from Duxbury in to Word and save it from there. I used
to have Duxbury, but I didn't use it enough to remember how to do very much
with it, so that is why I am not giving specific commands.
I would assume you are not trying to fix up a book you have downloaded from
bookshare for resubmission, because working from the BRF copy is not really
acceptable. All paging will be a mess and you will have gobs of
translation errors.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] converting brf documents
Hello list. I wanted to ask a question. I have K1000 version 5.0. Yes, I
know it's old. However, money hasn't allowed me to be able to purchase a
newer version. After Christmas this year I will purchase the latest one.
My question is about converting BRF documents to MS Word. How can I do
this? I have an old version of Duxbury for Windows. I took a book which I
recently downloaded as a brf and I was able to open it in Duxbury.
However, I'm not able to resave it as an MS Word file. I wanted to save it
as an RTF but was unsuccessful either. Please advise. I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
Monica
