I have tried the paid versions of Scrivener, and NotesWriter+ for iPad and
many free apps that also say they handle rtf documents in the last 6
months. Don't waste your time or money. Scrivener removes all of the hard
page breaks. Notewriter strips the page numbers. The app developers for
both said they will not fix those problems. All of the free apps I tried
were worse.
I haven't found a single app that works on the iPad for proofreading
Bookshare's rtf files.

Hello! Hope everyone's having a nice day.
So I want to proofread but I need to use my iPad to do that. Anyone in
here using an iPad as well? If so, could you help recommend things I could
use to orooferead books for Bookshare please? I don't have the money to
pay for my membership this year so I was hoping I could help Bookshare out
to get points and help out as well.

Hi, Cindy! Be My Eyes is a useful app indeed! I’ve used it several
times to find things like light switches, sometimes lost items that I
can’t seem to put my hands on, and for reading package directions for
frozen dinners. They also can connect someone to the Microsoft help
desks for people with disabilities, and I’ve used them a couple of times
for that.
Aira is another app/service that is quite useful, but it isn’t free. In
addition to the app, it currently comes with a small WiFi hotspot and
Google glasses… The agent (sighted person) sees whatever is in the
camera, so he or she is able to help me to navigate an unfamiliar place,
try my hand at a new yummilicious recipe… All kinds of things! Aira
agents are also able to take over a blind person’s screen when a website
or app/program isn’t accessible. Some people are running marathons with
the help of Aira agents… SO cool! Soon they’ll have a system that
includes a smartphone that is only for Aira and glasses with a longer
battery life and a better field of view for the agents!
Since I’m half asleep, I should probably have waited till I was awake to
comment on this… But I’m so fascinated by apps and services like this! 😊

My daughter sent me this which she saw on Face book and thought that I
should share it with you, though maybe you already know about it; it's
a free app that connects blind and low-vision people with sighted
volunteers and company representatives via a live video call; I clicked
on the link she gave me (it was to a Facebook post) and played the
video; From what I can figure out the sighted person can help the
blind person find something dropped on the floor; thinking about it
why wouldn't the cane help with that) and maybe read something like a
phone number from the telephone book; anyway, I'm passing the info on
in case it's useful to any of you (though I guess you must be able to
hear; from what I saw it's also an app that will work on a mobile
phone;
