I do that, too. I've found that one can remove a whole paragraph's worth at one 
time, and I do that if the paragraph is long. The first time, i.e., paragraph, 
one has to  replace each one individually, but after that, when you blacken the 
whole paragraph excluding the final paragraph mark and replace all, adding if 
necessary a space, it does it quickly. I don't know, though, if only sighted 
proofreaders can do that.
