If you can't scan then you proofread. Read the parts of the manual
that pertain to proofreading.

A hearty Welcome, Patricia, it's good to have you join us and
to know about what you've been doing.
I think that on the bookshare site there's a place that
explains how you can help. In fact, if you've been approved to
be a volunteer, you probably found it. You can proof or scan;
whatever you prefer. If you have a scanner and are able to
scan (some of us have minor physical disablities that make
that difficult, that would be most valuable at this time. You
can scan any book you want that's not already in the
collection, from the wish list (books requested by members) or
just something you like that you think others would like, too:
fiction or nonfiction. There's a manual on the site that gives
more informaion about scanning.
Aganm welcon. Glad to have you with us.

Portential greeters
I am a disability advocate and have loved
and mentored twin girls through the
challenges of school. I have one twin at
Kutztown and one recent grad from Kutztown.
Their journey has been amazing and
inspiring. Although they have many
successes, they continue to need support and
face daily challenges in language,
expressive and receptive and communication
in general. Through the years, I have
helped many with IEP's and advocacy for
services in public education, social service
agencies and state and federal disability
benefit determination/coordination. I have
an interest in participating more with
Wrightslaw and supporting transition to
college, post-secondary opportunities. I
have recently been asked to join the Board
of Directors of the PA chapter of Learning
Disabilities Association of America.
Additionally, I have participated in local
Disability Empowerment seminars and OVR
initiatives. I am a nurse case manager and
have successfully coordinated and
facilitated favorable outcomes in
healthcare. I have been 'retired' since
2005 as I have pursued personal interests.
I want to become an active volunteer with
Bookshare. It seems like a wonderful
organization, but quite frankly, I need
guidance. I have no idea where to
begin....please let me know how to join in
and eagerly support your goals and mission.
I have been approved to be a volunteer and
would like to offer some time and effort. I
look forward to your response and direction.

Patricia Henry

Hi all,
I’m
perfectly fine with the way things
have been handled. My previous
email was just in response to the
phone discussions where people
wanted to greet new volunteers who
weren’t comfortable posting to the
list to introduce themselves. If
no one is interested in this idea
anymore, that is fine too and the
greetings can just continue as
they have been going.
Best,
Madeleine
When I posted to Madeleine,
you were one of the folks I
had in mind. We just do it
anyway so why not just keep
doing it?

Portential greeters
Well,
I know that I and quite a
few others do post a welcome
to newcomers who introduce
themselves on the list. If
you think it's desirable to
post a welcome to anyone
anyone who has joined but
hasn't introduced him/herslf
and thus that we don't know
about, I'm game.

Hi
volunteers,
At
one point we discussed
having people greet
new volunteers who
have recently joined
the list. I haven’t
had very many people
email me directly
expressing interest so
I thought I’d post
here. For anyone
interested in greeting
others, Alisa and I
were thinking that it
could just be as
simple as posting to
the list once or twice
a week with a friendly
note to welcome anyone
new.
It
could be as simple as:
“Hi to anyone new to
this discussion list!
Welcome! Please feel
free to introduce
yourself and don’t
hesitate to ask
questions.”
While
we want to ensure that
everyone feels
welcome, we don’t want
to clog up the list
with chatty posts. We
kindly request that if
anyone is feeling
especially friendly,
please make sure no
one else has already
sent a greeting
recently (in the last
few days) before
posting. We shall see
how this works, and
I’d greatly appreciate
any feedback, whether
positive or negative!
Thanks
and have a great rest
of the day!
