Lori, May I be the validator of the Silver Chalice? If so, please put hold for Jill on the book and let me know when you do. Jill ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lori Castner" <loralee.castner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Dear G. Cindy,

I would be happy to submit "The Silver Chalice".

I read this novel in high school and remember being thoroughly enthralled by the story.

The copy I have was copyright 1952. As a personal point, I acquired this copy which belonged to my mother. She was a voracious reader, and I asked for some of her books after her death. Because of this connection, it will be extra special for me to submit this book.

If any one else has decided to work on this, let me know.

Cat Lover Lori

A member has requested two books, "Having A Mary Heart
In A Martha World," by Joanna Weaver, and "The Silver
Chalice," by Thomas Costain.

The first, I found, is in the administrator rejection
queue. I've written to Claire, but I wondered if
anyone here is the validator, and if so, if you can
tell me why it was recommended for rejection. Does it
have to be rescanned, or is there something simple
like missing copyright info or some missing pages that
the submitter can fix? I'm going to wait to put the
book on the Wish List until I find out, because if
there's a simpe fix to make it Excellent, it would be
a pity to have someone start from scratch.

I was surprised to find no Thomas Costain books in the
collection or being validated. These are, as I
remember from my youth, excellent historical novels,
and I seem to remember a discussion a while back about
good historical novels being wanted and especially
ones taking place in ancient and Biblical times--and
places. The Silver Chalice is that kind of book. I did
a bit of research, and it was a best-selling Fiction
title of 1953. It tells the story of a silversmith who
was commissioned by Luke to make a chalice for The
Last Supper. According to one reader's review on
Amazon, "It has suspense, history, greed, romance,
love, longing, spirituality - the list of in depth
emotions that the main character experiences is
amazing."

Thomas Costain has written similar excellent and very
readable historical novels--enjoyable reading no
matter what one's religion.
