I even went back to the next earlier jaws and had the same trouble.

Hello, Larry,
I just updated to the latest version of JAWS 22. I am using Windows 10 and
Office 2019.
I am unable to use the spellchecker in Word. When I attempt to tab through
the choices such as "ignore" "ignore all" and "change", the speech does not
speak the choices and the computer freezes up.
Before this update to JAWS, I had difficulties filling out edit boxes and
though that feature works better I cannot type as quickly as I am used to
because JAWS freezes up somehow.

P.S.: The spellchecker in Outlook works fine.
