Hi Deborah and Carmella, Since Carmella has already inserted parentheses and that's what the current manual instructed her to do, I'd say she shouldn't go to the trouble of changing all of her footnote numbers. But Deborah, you are correct, in future, your means of handling footnotes is what we will be using. I know that's what the current manual says to do, and I know that Mary is currently rewriting the manual, so I don't know if we've totally adopted a different policy yet. But after many discussions regarding how to format footnotes so they work for everyone, it became apparent that using parentheses or brackets or any other punctuation that has a different purpose, especially in nonfiction, can be confusing. I thought we had adopted the practice of preceding a footnote number by a space and an asterisk (*), since asterisks are already used to indicate that more information follows. Perhaps Mary will chime in and let us know what you should do, since the current manual says one thing, and recent discussions indicate somethink else. Y'all are so helpful. Adjusting the zoom worked. No pages are skipped. The problem I have now is that JAWS doesn't announce any page changes, like going from page 2 to page 3, for example. I thought that was how I knew where the page breaks were. I'm not doing anything at this point that should change them, just the usual formatting stuff, like 16 pt bolding chapter titles, taking out running headers, and making sure a word that runs from one line to the next is joined on the same line. Oh, and adding lots of parentheses around numbers for notes. How do I know where the page breaks actually are, or does it matter? As long as I'm not messing around with the margins, they shouldn't change, should they? I know page breaks are important. I don't want to have to redo all my edits again because I accidentally did something to messed them up and I'm anxious to get this book to the point of being approved, since it is my first. Y'all are great. Thanks again.
