Hi John,

Valerie is right here, including what she writes about separating stanzas and poems on the same page. Unfortunately, just a blank paragraph won't do because Bookshare processing removes all blank lines; so you have to put something in the blank line to indicate that it is there in the original book.

Evan

Good afternoon, John!

Maybe Evan or Lissi will jump in, but as I understand it from their previous suggestions, in addition to putting a paragraph mark at the end of each line, we put a single asterisk between stanzas and if there is more than one poem on the page, three asterisks to denote a shift to a new poem.

Without the presence of line breaks in daisy format it is the best we can do to retain poetry format so that it reads correctly. It is a lot of work, but it really helps out in the end. It matters a lot to people who enjoy reading poetry and want to see it or hear it as it originally was written.

Thanks for taking the time to ask!
Valerie

Hi John,

Yes, each line of poetry should end with a paragraph mark, or each line
should begin with one, whichever it ends up happening when you don't
separate lines with spaces. Poetry is pretty much useless if the lines are
not separated by paragraph marks.

Thanks for keeping true to the poetry. That matters a lot to those of us
who enjoy poetry.

I am preparing a book on Writing Metrical poetry for submission. It has lots of poems. Should each line be in a separate paragraph? I am using Word 2007.

Thanks,
John
