[bksvol-discuss] Re: Regarding adding text to Page Numbers

Hi Mayrie,

From our understanding it should still work. But as stated earlier, our
recommendation would be to avoid attaching text to page numbers.
Also, the new site will not use the current stripper.

All good things,
Pavi

Hi Pavi,

My question about this is: will the stripper still be able to
extract page numbers if the word "page" is placed before them? If not, then
doing so might misnumber pages, because the stripper won't know where page 1
actually is in the book, if introductory pages exist. Has anyone asked
engineering about this?

Mayrie

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Regarding adding text to Page Numbers

Hi All,

With regard to Roger's suggestion of adding the word "page" before a page
number to avoid confusion for the reader, our first response is that, that
is a lot of extra work to require of the validator! However if it is
something you would like to do as a validator, you may do so, the book will
certainly not be returned or rejected on that account. The only cautionary
note would be that given the fact that it is not a requirement, the vast
majority will not be following this procedure, so in the interests of
standardization it may actually be best to leave it out.

All good things,

Pavi

It would be good to have some official word from someone at Bookshare
about this. I would not consider that to be part of the text myself.
It sounds to me like it is equivalent to inserting page numbers in a
book that has none or inserting the words blank page where there is a
blank page. That is, it is not changing the author's words.
