Jackie you may like Dianna Gabaldon's romance series. It is based on very accurate historical research, is set in Scotland America England and Jamaica during 1740 through the American revolution.
We have them on bookshare. They are romantic and the heroin has a strong personality. Her lover treats her well. The whole series is absolutely captivating. Fun to get lost in it.
