Hi there,

I've been working when time permits on learning my new K-1000 software, and
hope to submit some books to Bookshare soon.

This question might go to Gerald, Jake, or someone on the technical side.

One thing I have learned which I think is quite exciting for me personally
is the ability for the K-1000 to create and save Bookmarks. And not JUST
bookmarks but different levels of bookmarks, so you could have chapter
heading be one level, pages another and so on. AND these bookmarks and
their levels can be saved when you save it in the Daisy .opf format.

I guess my question is, would we not be able to save some steps if we
submitted in .KES and those bookmarks and corresponding levels be saved to
allow the bookshare submissions to already have that really nice navigable
feature in the
books?

Of course I know the preference is .RTF so as to have more validators. And
unless things change, that is the form in which I'll be submitting. But I
thoughth I would just toss that subject out there to see about it.

This program is so far in my ezperience well worth the investment I made.
And it was some of you bookshare volunteers references in these discussions
which led me to pursue it. Thanks for that. I'm still learning it. But
the quality of scans, the numerous useful features, and the logic of its
design for users is remarkable.

Did anyone see Ray Kurzweil on C-SPAN 2 this past weekend? Great 3-hour
interview and call-in on the monthly "In-Depth" program. It re-airs this
Saturday morning, too. Very interesting. He is indeed deserving of all of
our praise and I wonder at his visionary mind. I used his very first
scanning machine in our university library back in the early 1980's. It was
about the size of a conventional chest freezer. Great how how we have
proceeded, and how that miracle at the time has now been advanced by a
plethora of great things now!

Happy scanning & validating.

Thanks.
Rik
