Subject: [bksvol-discuss] I Got an Optikbook 4800
Hey Guys,
I just tested out my slightly used Optikbook 4800 scanner. I was looking at it
on Amazon, but it was $779 there last week. I wanted one, and I could afford
it, but I wasn't sure it was worth that much.
But lo and behold, just a day or two after that, someone on the Blind Ads list
posted that he had one for $350. He said that it had been sitting around for a
while, and that he had only scanned a few hundred pages with it, which isn't
much for a good scanner. So I snatched it up.
He sent it in the original box.It works perfectly.
I went to the Plustech site last night, downloaded and installed the software.
I waited until this morning to test it because it was cold when I unpacked it,
probably because it was in a postal truck all day and I didn't think trying it
out while it was cold would be a good idea.
I really like it. I have no buyer's remorse at all. I'm extremely happy with
it. It is substantially faster than my older scanners, my 3600 and 3900.
The thing is, although I've only scanned a dozen pages so far, I could swear
that recognition is faster also. Does anybody have an idea as to why that might
be so? Is it just because K1000 is working with higher quality images, or is
there more to it?
Evan
