Hi Valerie,

It doesn't matter in the longrun what we do with paragraphs. What
you choose to do is purely a matter of personal preference for you during
proofreading.

In the end, the xml file, from which the daisy files are created has
a blank line between paragraphs. And daisy readers give the option to
choose what the reader wants to see, either indentation, or a blank line.
We as proofreaders can't change this.

So, do what makes you most comfortable to proofread.

Mayrie

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Another nuisance question on formatting

Your local pest with another formatting question.

I am sitting on a fence on this one. And my dilemma is in great part due to
knowing that certain format translations can be problematic or just
irritating for Braille and other blind users. Although I do not "preserve
formatting at all costs", I have tended to center justify titles and chapter
headings that are handled that way within the text. Especially since they
are usually already that way after having been scanned or proofed. Basically
I have just gone with however the book was when I received it and made it
consistent. Is that okay?

Another issue that I struggle with, more so when I get text that is not well
separated, is how to handle paragraphs. If there are no indent and no blank
lines between paragraphs, I tend to just indent the first line of the new
paragraph. However, Doug and some other people have told me that it is
actually easier, especially on the longer pages, if there is a blank line
and/or indent. Is there any preference in these regards?

Thanks for all your help!
Valerie
