Sounds like a great and a challenging book. I did Forrest Gump and Gump and Company and it was the same way with slang dominating the book, smile. That is, have you ever tried to clean up a book where the author misspells words and runs words together on purpose and generally tries to give her English teachers a conniption or make them roll over in their graves? In the words of someone from Mitford. Well, you ain't goin' t' have t' cleanup this one 'cause I've goan ahead and done it f'r you since you cain't do more'n pea-turkey without needin' to refer t' th' book. OK, so I exaggerated a bit by rolling a lot of the things Jan Karon likes to do into a single sentence, but this will give you an idea why I went ahead an cleaned up the book. There's also an exert from Mitford's local paper where she's spelled Coppersmith "Coppersmoth", "Copermoth", and "Coppersmitj" and a full chapter of correspondence that was printed in italics. It's not perfect, but I think it's an Excellent scan. · I've stripped the headers since they had some problems, and it was easier to strip them than normalize them. · I've saved it in a RTF format and verified that all of the page breaks are still there. · I've run it through a spell checker looking for obvious scanning problems. · I've read back through it looking for the types of problems that a spell checker wouldn't find and to make sure it's all there. · My wife has verified that the ISBN and copyright information scanned correctly, and I found the information using Google by searching for the ISBN. I think it's ready for acceptance now, but I don't think validating your own book is a good idea, especially when it's your first submission, which this is. Hopefully, all this work will make for an easy validation for someone. Didn't think I would ever get this one finished. To borrow a line from page 192: I've worked on this stupid book until my eyes are crossing. Well, that's not exactly correct since I used OpenBook and JAWS to scan and cleanup the book, but you get the idea. Also, I wouldn't have gone to so much trouble if I didn't like and recommend the book.
