Following are some highlights from the Warsaw winter bird count, held on 
December 17 in portions of Carroll, Gallatin, and Owen Counties:
  
  11 species of waterfowl including Canada Goose (782), Canvasback (3), Common 
Goldeneye (9), and Common Merganser (1).
  Wild Turkey  (52)
  Bald Eagle  (1 immature at Markland Dam)
  Sandhill Crane   (65 in flight near Glencoe)
  34 species of gulls   Bonaparte's (10), Ring-billed (540), and Herring (1)
  Horned Lark  (156)
  Red-breasted Nuthatch  (1)
  Hermit Thrush  (2)
  Savannah Sparrow   (5)  new high count
  Rusty Blackbird  (100)  new high count
  Purple Finch  (5)
 
A total of 72 species were found by the five participants.
