Birding highlights from the past few days include:

Aug 30: 

A good number of shorebirds on mudflats in Little
River on Lake Barkley including Willet, Buff-breasted
Sandpiper, Stilt Sandpiper, and Greater Yellowlegs.

Aug 31:

Present at Blood River on Kentucky Lake were two
American Golden Plovers, Stilt Sandpipers, and a
Buff-breasted Sandpiper, in addition to common
shorebirds.

A juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron was again
observed at Jonathan Creek.

Sept 1:

Male American Wigeon at Jonathan Creek

Single Buff-breasted and Baird's Sandpipers on
Mississippi River near Laketon in Carlisle County.

Six Mississippi Kites near the Indian Camp in Carlisle
County.

Sept 2:

Approximately 1000 waders at Lake 9 in Fulton County,
along with a female Northern Pintail, a few Northern
Shovelers, and six Black-necked Stilts. Several
species of common shorebirds were present including
Stilt Sandpiper.

At least 50 hummers visiting feeders at a residence
near Blue Springs Bay on Lake Barkley in Trigg County.
What a swarm!

Sept 4:

Migrants in my back yard along Drakes Creek in Warren
County included Canada Warbler, Magnolia Warbler,
Redstart, Ovenbird, and Northern Waterthrush.

Sept 5:

Ten species of shorebirds present at Jonathan Creek on
Kentucky Lake including a juvenile Short-billed
Dowitcher and 13 Stilt Sandpipers, as well as 2 Fish
Crows.

Twelve shorebird species at Blood River on Kentucky
Lake including Baird's Sandpiper, Short-billed
Dowitcher, Stilt Sandpiper, and Wilson's Snipe. 

Shorebird habitat continues to improve with the
falling water level of the lakes.
