David Roemer and I started our day at Jonathan Creek and Blood River. We later continued our birding at the dams. Smithland dam was the highlight with one Lesser Black-backed gull and 2 First year Laughing Gulls. An Adult Laughing Gull was seen sitting on the lock at KY Dam. The male Scissor-tailed Flycatcher was on the wires at Barkley Dam. Thirteen species of shorebirds were seen on the mud flats. The list includes, Semipalmated Plover, Greater & LesserYellowlegs, Solitary, Spotted, Semipalmated, Least, Baird's, Pectoral, Buff-breasted SP and Sanderling. On my way home I stopped for a short walk on the mud flat at JC. Two Stilt Sandpipers had dropped in. Hunters started arriving and we chatted a bit about the upcoming season. My information had been incorrect. The early Canada Goose season opened today not Wood Duck season. Sorry for the misinformation.
