Rhonda and I got out for a little walking/hiking/birding over the
weekend

Bernheim turned out to be mostly a walk Saturday. We took the Wilson
Fire Road at the back end to its length (about 3-1/2 miles), then out of
the park down to the stream crossing, and them retraced our steps. Only
3 migrants were seen (2 tennessee, 1 redstart). No thrush of any species
was noted. There was an extraordinary large number of titmice,
chickadees, and nuthatches, but little associating with them. There was
also very little singing at all, 1 white-eyed vireo and 1 hooded
singing.

Berea on Sunday would need to be classified as hiking with a little bit
of climbing included. Some really nice mixed hardwood forest on the west
end with a beautiful section dominated by sugar maples. Again there
wasn't a large number of migrants located. Outside of one large flock
that refused to be identified for the most part (uninterested in me and
the worst of sky conditions for seeing color), they were sparse. The
jewel of the day was a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. I was most surprised to see
2 Wood Thrush. Several hooded were singing, as was 1 yellow-throated
vireo, and a couple red-eyed vireo.
