Joanie and I returned from vacation yesterday and I was delighted to see the transient lakes with water. We were somewhat disappointed to miss the snow while we were gone as Bowling Green has not received that much in a few years, and I would have enjoyed seeing the Whooping Cranes, but watching and photographing whales in 80 degree weather wasn't too torturous. The transient lakes were hosting a relatively low number of ducks both yesterday and today with a few of the following species present, mostly at McElroy. Gadwall, American Wigeon, American Black Duck, Mallard, Blue-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, and Bufflehead. Shorebirds present included American Golden-Plover, Killdeer, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Least Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Wilson's Snipe. A flock of gulls was present at McElroy today with over 100 Bonaparte's, 4 Herring, and a few Ring-billed. David L.
