Visiting birder Mike Resch was in the LBL area working
on his Kentucky list on December 13. Since he isn't
subscribed to the listserve I am posting the results
of his trip for him. Mike birded Kentucky and
Smithland Dams and Lake Barkley from Kuttawa to the
dam.

fair amount of time looking for rarities in with them

PURPLE FINCH - 3 in daylight at spot where I had the
GH Owl. When I stopped there in the pre-dawn I
noticed a tulip tree loaded with seeds. I remembered
from my years living in MD that they like to feed on
tulip seeds in winter, so I mentioned to myself that I
should check out this spot in the daylight to try for
purple finches. And sure enough, there were 3 there
when I returned in the early morning.
