I have 15 bluebird boxes, which are populated mostly by tree swallows. Last
year, I added a box on the fence separating the back yard from a pasture. By
the time I returned to the house - less than a minute - two tree swallows had
claimed the box.
I need to start banding these guys.

Subject: [birdky] Tree Swallow interaction
As I was returning from my morning rounds today, a Tree Swallow hovered near me
for several moments. I'm pretty sure I could read its little thought bubble
accusing me of being a slum lord for not keeping all my boxes in good repair.
So I patched up a box I had recently taken down, took it out and used it to
replace another box that was close to falling apart. Tree Swallow hovered
nearby while I was doing this but then refused to give me a photo op to go with
this post by lighting on the box while I was still there.
