Every day this week I've paddled to a mud flat that lies about 0.75 - 1 mile west of the state park boat ramp. Most days I see great blue herons, egrets, kingfishers, and an osprey. Twice I saw what I believe to be a female anhinga. At least, the throat and breast were light colored. This evening, as I began the paddle under a gloomy sky, I thought to myself, "I'm going to see a bald eagle here this winter." But winter came early and twice I saw a bald eagle flying below tree top level along the shore.
