Chris Sloan Nashville, TN Chris and All It has been my experience for areas east of Louisiana that many/most adult Rufous begin departing primary wintering sites during the last half of December and through all of January. Such departures were once considered good evidence that the onset of harsh, below freezing temperatures meant certain death of all such poor wayward birds. Now, thanks to year after year recaptures by area hummingbird banders, these old myths are finally being put to rest.
