In the midst of all the long-billed murrelet excitement, this seems mundane, but there were 5 surf scoters on the Ohio River mid-afternoon today (Wednesday). All were immatures/females, and were seen from the Indiana side of the river. Two were just above the dam at the Falls of the Ohio. Three were downriver, across the retaining wall as viewed from the Interpretive Center from the Indiana side. The birds were nice enough to continually stretch their wings to rule out the white-winged scoter I was looking for. Also ruddy ducks and 6 horned grebes.
