After being in Alaska for two weeks I returned to the draught and heat of west KY. The Purple Martins have begun roosting in the Cypress trees at Crappie Hollow and the Great Egrets and Great Blues are spending lazy days along the shoreline. I witnessed something I've heard about but never seen until yesterday. A red-tailed hawk flew from the trees with a red-winged blackbird riding on it's head like a cowboy taking a bull for a joy ride. The hawk flew across the water with the blackbird riding high. It wasn't attack mode it look like a fun way to spend a hot afternoon. It all happened so fast that I never thought to photograph the event.
