This evening, about 6:10pm, I observed a short-eared owl flying "moth-like" at treetop level through our backyard, headed north. As I watched it turned towards the west giving me a good view of its face and dark upper-wing patches. We live near Hurstbourne in the middle of a neighborhood so the only thing I can think of is that it was maybe flushed from an old tree nursery property south of where we live? Made for a totally unexpected, great backyard list bird!
